In all honesty, I don’t care about the trip.
But it is neither for me nor for my brothers; rather it is for my Mother. 46 years old this year, to her, this is like an unbelievable, unexpected wish come true!
And why is that?
She raised us for 20 years, and it was not easy – there is a pressing financial problem and most importantly, she took care of her children ALONE. Divorced, debt-ridden and desperate, she could’ve sent us to any families for adoption, just like every other poor family did - but she did not. We repaid her sacrifice with “troublemaking” behaviors at school, yet she still took care of us (hey, it’s not her fault!).
But then, we had always known that she loves to travel and experience new cultures – but can’t do it. She tried to hide it, but it doesn’t take a psychologist to know what she wants. For instance, while watching the colorful Hagia Sophia of Turkey or Stari Most of Bosnia and Herzegovina in TV, she’d keep her eyes fixated on that “travel programme” and thought to herself (we’re sure of it):
“How nice if I could go there… But I know that I’m just dreaming…”
Hence, for her 46th birthday this March, we, her “troublemaking” children, wanted to give her the best gift she’d ever received in her whole life – one that she might have never thought of receiving – at least from her children! We can’t wait to see her expression when she found out about this!
And of course, we wanted her to know that her children, despite “skipping classes, breaking chairs and taunting teachers”, DO love her!
